  • What are your top 5?

    Written by Paige / on 01/09/2012 / 0 Comments

A colleague recently told me that when asked what people really want out of life, the top 5 things were: Fewer Hassles, More Choices, More Money, More Time, and No Worries. The number One answer for women was More Time.  Hmmmmm, I said.  I have to disagree with this study.  Now, this was not the answer that my colleague expected.  In actuality, he was trying to sell me on something that I wasn't quite buying.  The reason I wasn't buying it is the following: we are all individuals, and we all want different things.  I felt I couldn't be lumped in ..

  • Staffing Surge? Be Prepared!

    Written by Paige / on 07/02/2011 / 0 Comments

    Intro

This past week, I was taken completely by surprise..... for some reason, the number of job requ's coming into my firm reached the highest level in 2 years!  Could it be that we are finally seeing that uptick we have been waiting for, oh so patiently?  At any rate, I was, shamefully, unprepared and understaffed for the event.

Being a boutique firm, I pride myself on the individual service that I can offer my customers.  This, in many cases, equates to specialty job orders that are highly involved and difficult to recruit.  With a greater number of requirements coming in, I ..

We would like to make our groupsite as successful as possible; not only for the benefit of our members in the staffing and recruiting industry, but for job seekers as well.  After checking Google search rankings today, we are currently ranked #3 under the "staffing services" category!  This is great news for those of us wanting to post split op's, jobs and training sessions for public viewing.  We are also looking for valuable information about our industry such as statistics, finance, recruiting tools, the latest and greatest staffing software, etc.  Share your ideas on the site, chances are somebody will benefit ..

  • The Excitement of New York!

    Written by Paige / on 08/19/2010 / 0 Comments

I recently returned from a trip to New York City, purely a pleasure trip, which I enjoyed immensely.  While there, I couldn't help but become encompassed by the fast pace and excitement of the New York life....it had been 13 years since I visited New York, and I found it quite changed from my last visit.  The city was vibrant and moving, day and night with both New Yorkers and many, many tourists from America and overseas.

You would never guess that the economy was in a slump by the looks of it; with each shop, restaurant and venue overflowing with ..

  • Positive Thinking in 2010

    Written by Paige / on 02/07/2010 / 0 Comments

Here we are officially a month into 2010 and the figures are coming in.....positive figures.  We have heard the news that Ford Motor Company posted a profit, unemployment is slightly down and staffing companies have seen a 4% increase in revenues.  I like to think of myself as a positive person, so I point out these occurances to tell myself and others in the the group that our economy, and our industry, is observing positive trends in 2010!

Now, I realize there are skeptics out there who will provide at least one negative for each positive news item we find.  For ..

  • New Year, Positive Outlook!

    Written by Paige / on 01/03/2010 / 0 Comments

Tomorrow is more than just another Monday.  Yes, it's back to the grind after a 3 day holiday reprieve, but for many, it's also a new start.  It is the beginning of a new year in our careers, businesses and personal lives.  A renewal of sorts.  We are anticipating the start of a reviving economy......stocks are up, employment numbers are promising, and the housing market is showing signs of recovery.  All of this adds up to a much better outlook than we had one year ago when all of these areas were on the decline rather than incline.

    As a business ..

  • Crunch Time.....or Wasting Time?

    Written by Paige / on 12/17/2009 / 0 Comments

It's that time of year......I call it crunch time.  There is so much to do from purchasing and wrapping gifts, holiday cards, family gatherings, work gatherings, year end accounting and budget planning, just to name a few.  It's no wonder people are stressed to the maximum!

I myself am baffled at the amount of things that I need to accomplish before the year end. While putting a particular post on Facebook to say just that, I had an epiphany - am I really being efficient with my time?  As I pondered that statement, it was an emphatic NO!  My decision came ..

  • Is Employee Theft on the Rise?

    Written by Paige / on 11/23/2009 / 0 Comments

I recently read some disturbing information regarding employee theft, and thought I'd share it with the group.  The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners estimates that 7% of company revenues are lost to internal fraud annually.  Another group that investigates fraud says recent calls for it's services are up by 25%!  Perhaps that isn't surprising at a time when the economy is less than ideal.

I think the most disturbing aspect of this particular crime, is that the perpetrators are most often the most trusted employees.  They have access to bank accounts, checks, financial information, and more. As HR professionals, it ..

  • To Bosses Everywhere - Be Kind to Your Employees!

    Written by Paige / on 11/05/2009 / 0 Comments

A friend came to me recently with an HR related matter regarding some personal time she needed.  You see, she has worked in the accounting department for a small business for over 8 years now.  During that time, she has accumulated vacation days, personal days and the like.  However, in this particular instance, she had a personal appointment, and needed to leave work only one hour early.  She suggested skipping her lunch period to make up the time for that one hour.  Her boss, known to be very rigid in these situations, would not allow her to do so without taking ..

  • Social Network Training - Decisions, Decisions.....

    Written by Paige / on 10/11/2009 / 0 Comments

Everytime I open my email, log on to twitter, or read the posts on my "recruitment" groups on Linked In, I find a new common denominator.  This "common denominator" is the recent trend towards training in the art of social networking.  Some of the best and well-respected trainers in our industry are doing it, and some completey unknowns.  It makes me wonder, who is giving the best information? And, who is really a trusted expert in the field?

Related to this is the boon of social networkers, under the guise of "Training Expert" who are really just trying to suck me ..
